Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. When I
mute my audio, the mixer icon in the panel changes to reflect there is
no volume. With it unmuted, I have a speaker icon with small arcs
indicating sound. With it muted, those arcs change to a straight line
from the speaker. Also, the volume indication when the scroll wheel is
used shows a red X to indicate mute. This is when using any theme in
Xubuntu 11.10.
Does your mixer not change from the arcing lines to a straight line when
muted?
