In order to get my system up and running again (would start in CLI, not in X)
- Tried to install fglrx from the repository - couldn't (said was already there) - Tried to uninstall fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle using apt-get - couldn't do it, because it said it wasn't there - Force installed the package from AMD website (to overwrite what was there) - Used the now present force remove scripts - Renamed my xorg.conf file (because it referenced the now removed fglrx) - Deleted the directories containing the fglrx drivers entirely - Installed from repository fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle (now went in, as no previous record) - Reconfigured using the fglrx control panel from AMD Took about an hour to try all the steps through, appears that it tried to partially remove/reuse the existing fglrx and left itself in an unstable state that the normal remove/reinstall couldn't cope with. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875619 Title: package fglrx 2:8.840-0ubuntu4 [modified: usr/lib/fglrx/etc/ati/amdpcsdb.default usr/lib/fglrx/etc/ati/atiogl.xml usr/lib/fglrx/etc/ati/authatieventsd.sh usr/lib/fglrx/etc/ati/control usr/lib/fglrx/etc/ati/signature] failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/875619/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
