I ran the live cd from an external harddrive using the Grub2 feature of booting directly from an iso using a custom grug.cfg on the external hdd. I.e. I installed grub2 on the external hdd bootsector, customised /boot/grub/grub.cfg and added the iso to the external hdd.
There was no initial screen where I could check for defects but I did compare the md5 of the iso file (on the external hdd) to the ones at: http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/mirror/cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/11.10/release/MD5SUMS It may be a hardware issue though. I finally managed to install after setting the bios to "safe-defaults" and using a different partition on the hdd. If it helps, I can try to recreate the problem again to determine if it was the bios settings or the hdd. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875368 Title: Repeated crashes during clean install of XUbuntu 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/875368/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
