Does this mean that, by checking VT1-6, the problem with VT7 is cleared
and lightdm is allowed to start?  Or is plymouth actually running on a
different VT than VT7?

Does the problem ever clear itself automatically if you just wait?

"Booting system without full network configuration" means that you have
interfaces configured statically in /etc/network/interfaces that are
unavailable.  If these interfaces are not normally available, you can
remove this boot-time delay by either marking the interfaces as no
longer being "auto", or by letting network-manager manage them instead
of ifupdown.

Is this problem reproducible with the standard Ubuntu plymouth theme?
