Im sorry neither kernel 3.1rc9 nor 3.1.daily (3.1.0-999.201110171146)
did solve the problem

As I've written I've tried too latest v4l git. So either the problem is
in v4l itself - wrong frontend selected - or somewhere else.

As I've googled in the meanwhile i2c errors are serious, and are not
related to udev (which was my faulty guess). So - as the usb id's for
the device are correct - I believe now that something inside v4l goes
wrong.  I investigate further to find out the mystery.

BTW. another user is affected see :
