Hi there, I think I have a very similar problem. I have an ancient HP Omnibook 6000 which I have just upgraded to xubuntu 11.10. It runs OK when on mains but on battery with kernel 3.0.0-12 it goes into kernel panic within 3 or 4 mouse clicks after login. If I boot on battery using kernel 2.6.38-11 (the last kernel installed by 11.04) I have no problems. I have no idea how to debug a kernel panic but I suspect that it is something to do with the power settings. Xubuntu no longer gives you the option of changing power settings as far as I can see.
Now I have discovered that I can run on the old kernel, this problem does not affect me too much. I hope this comment provides some additional information to fix this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/862221 Title: Kernel Panic when on battery.
