I have also noticed that there is an "echo" image -- ghostlike -- generated to the left of the screen. It's like ghosting on an old analog TV set, and it seems to be a bit stretched out horizontally. I've had other troubles with video on 11.10 (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/876933), but I don't know if it's related to this or a separate problem with MythTV. The thing that makes me think they may be related is that the HP Webcam HD-3100 is an HD unit (1280x720 progressive). My hardware includes an Nvidia video subsystem, so I am running the proprietary driver (nvidia-current) under jockey-gtk.
