OK, I have held off doing any kernel modifications such as adding
alsa-1.0.14rc4 as others have suggested as I thought you guys might want
to work with me to fix this issue.

It has been over three weeks and nobody here has even assigned any
importance to this issue, should I assume I am on my own?  My next move
may be to install Fedora and see if that is any better...
