Any rational for this request beside to have another option?

As a rational to set it as invalid as long as no good reason exist:
* It can never be the default
* adds mostly untested/unused codepaths
* everything working with these files needs to check both namestyles, breaking
existing software,
  so it is even less like that this option will ever be used by a real user
* It has no value for the user, beside increasing complexity to share these
files with older releases and with everything not supporting : in filenames

** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid
