Maybe like everything else about Ubuntu One, it was doing something, but
VEEERRYY slowly.
I tried again on a different folder, and while clicking/choosing to sync gave
no visible effect (ie, it ought to immediately change the folder icon to the
in-progress version), it did so after several minutes.

There are numerous other performance problems, maybe related.

Syncing a new folder takes over one hundred times as long as it does for
Dropbox (!!!).

During this time, I get repeated (several) identical popup messages
telling me the syncing is happening.

Changing a file has no short term effect on synced computers (while
Dropbox has the sync propagated within 10 seconds)

Available folders are not updated in the U1 control panel when they're
changed online (ie not within minutes)

I got numerous files inappropriately marked with .u1conflict during my
first update in a while. Worse, for tens of minutes, those files were
the only version left. They were the correct one, but eventually the
very out of date versions reappeared as well, without the .u1conflict.
So I had a lot of clean up to do

and other problems. I don't know how many of these are separate bugs.
