I wonder if half these button problems are because the clickpad doesn't have "buttons" per se, but rather areas at the bottom of the pad that are interpreted as buttons (like the areas on the edge that act as sliders on some pads...
Just fired up 11.10 on an X220 and there, at least, the trackpoint buttons (the three on top) seem to be working just fine.
