This is my second 11.10 32-bit installation failure. The first attempt was the
"Install from Windows" option, which appeared to succeed and ran successfully
(with no reboot) after installation; but then failed to boot after a restart. I
uninstalled using the Windows program uninstaller in Control Panel.
This second attempt was a manual "side-by-side" installation. I created
two free logical drives: 40 GB for swap and 98 GB for system/root. The
installer crashed. At this point I am assuming that Ubuntu is unhappy with the
size of the pointer to the start sector for the boot loader. The hard disk
system on this i5 computer is a 1.3 TB RAID 1 (hardware controller on MB) and
the logical drive I selected for both installations was towards the end of the
drive. I suppose it might be an incompatibility with the RAID controller as
well, but I would think that unlikely. I'll see if I can move stuff around and
successfully install closer to the start of the RAID array. The attachment box
below only lets me attach a single file, so went with the partman log, as I
suspect that's where the issue is. I'm not sure I'll be able to get at the
syslog file after this current session ends, but I'll try to save it. Feel free
to email me at [email protected] if you need further information. Thx.
