Public bug reported:
If I boot using generic kernel the boot process becomes very slow and
there is a long pause after "running /scripts/init-bottom ..." and
before the rcS.d scripts begin to run. kde is also noticeably slow. For
example just hovering over the kmenu button and the kmenu scrolling
banner paints across very slowly. If I rmmod thermal.ko and processor.ko
the problem immediately disappears. If I rmmod thermal.ko alone the
problem continues so the problem appears to be in processor.ko. This is
on a Sony Vaio VGN-FJ270. 1.8g Centrino with ip2200w wifi and i915
graphics with 1 gig ram. Problem started to occur with first release of
Edgy and continues through Feisty. I386 kernel does not have this
problem. Also if I start the generic kernel with acpi=off there is no
problem. I quite confident the problem is the processor.ko module.
