Thanks for adding the logs. Login for 11.10 is done through LightDM, Unity provides the GUI. That could be the problem, however a blank screen/system hang immediately after login is consistent with a GPU issue in the kernel DRM driver, so I believe this is packaged correctly. We'll know for sure when someone from the kernel team takes a look at your debugging information though. Your hardware is probably fine, but the drivers for it in the linux kernel may be at fault. By all means, try a fresh install if you like.
