I had extremely low/absent sound on my Toshiba A105-S4134. Upgrading the alsa drivers to the most recent version made the sound work some of the time.
however, adding 'options snd-hda-intel model=auto' to my /etc/modprobe.d /alsa-base made the sound work perfectly. Thanks a million for the workaround!
