Public bug reported:

I think this is a bug in the kernal, not entirely shure.
About 10% of my boots hang just after grub clears its menu, but before the
Debian splash screen goes away. (twice it has hung after the splash screen went
away, once with the monitor going into sleep mode, once displaying a bit of
text implying it was checking the battery. This is a desktop, there is no
battery for it to check).

When it is hung, there is no disk activity (Most of the OS is on a flash
drive, and there is no disk activity light for that, so I'm not entirely
sure of this claim. There is a disk activity light for the rotating
media drive mounted under /home). The keyboard is functioning, (num-lock
and caps-lock LEDs toggle as expected) but the computer does not respond
to the keyboard. I generally have to power cycle the computer to recover
(must hold the power button 4 seconds to get it to shut down).

This is an upgrade from 11.04, no hardware has changed since the
upgrade. I had zero boot hangs under 11.04 or any version of Ubuntu
before that. This started the day I upgraded to 11.10 with several hangs
happening that day.

I have looked in several log files, and found no indication that
anything was written to the logs prior to one of the hangs. It is very
likely I did not look in the correct log. Let me know which logs I
should be looking at, and I'll report my findings.
