I think I fixed this. Not sure. sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/smbclient_2%3a3.5.11~dfsg- 1ubuntu2_i386.deb
This type of error found during the upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 is not intuitive enough for an end user to fix.
