Public bug reported: Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10
xserver-xorg: 1:7.6+7ubuntu7 lspci -nn | grep VGA 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation G96 [GeForce 9400 GT] [10de:0641] (rev a1) When booting Ubuntu after a fresh install for the first time, the screen just goes to black after GRUB. According to a bugreport at redhat (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=480393) this is because of x-orgs auto-detection. When nvidias vendor-code is seen, xorg will default to nv/nouveau. Neither work on my machine. My workaround was booting from a live-cd, chrooting into the ubuntu- install and installing nvidia-current(-updates) from there. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/880853 Title: nouveau/nv don't work with NVidia 9400GT To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/880853/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
