I watched the video you provided. It shows the grub splash screen,
followed by the grub background, followed by a single screen clear and
the start of lightdm. That's entirely consistent with bug #540801.

I don't see any indication from the linked video that your monitor isn't
working with Ubuntu. Why do you say that there's a monitor problem?
