TO everybody reading this bug report: please don't think that the Ubuntu/Debian package isn't working.
It is working like a charm for 10 years..:-) It *just*requires people to *read* available documentation, not interpret it and put the damn databases in /var/lib/geneweb and certainly not in /usr/share/geneweb (where the h**** did you get this idea?).
