You seriously want me to make a screencast of the process? :-S Ow well... Attached you'll find a video of the steps to reproduce. I started recording right after logging in after a clean reboot. Some accounts in Empathy are disabled, as you can see in the accounts dialog, to speed up the recoding process. The link on my desktop is a link to the file ~/.xsession-errors.
