Thank you so much for your time.

I installed the 3.1.0... Kernel, image and headers. it would not boot at
all, it just "hung" the computer.
Interestingly, after that, some of my USB flash drives started to work
with the 2.6.32-34-generic-pae
kernel...

For 32 bit, you can install the deb package: linux-
image-3.1.0-030100-generic_3.1.0-030100.201110241006_i386.deb

It is available at:
