Well here is a solution hat works for me (although I am not entirely sure why it works):
I installed gnome-shell on the remote machine and then modified /etc/X11 /default-display-manager so that it contains /usr/sbin/gdm instead of /usr/sbin/lightdm My intention was to try to run a virtual 'ubuntu classic' session and so avoid unity. The odd thing is that when I start a remote virtual session (with NX), the unity desktop comes up and works perfectly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/866083 Title: there is no practical way to start/switch applications, menus and tasks in virtual session (VNC/NX/SYNERGY/VIRTUALBOX) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-2d/+bug/866083/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
