Would be nice to know what the fix is that was discussed on IRC?

Got kind of the same error while installing oneiric alternate from USB device 
(created with unetbootin):
ubuntu 11.10 as well as on
xubuntu 11.10

pkgsel version:
pkgsel_0.34ubuntu2

installation plattform:
lenovo thinkpad x121e (amd version)

Log says something like this:
[...blabla..."some required packages have not yet been created"...blabla...]
in-target: The following packages have unmet dependencies.
in-target:  libpurple0 : Depends: libsasl2-modules but is not installable
in-target:  xserver-xorg-video-all : Depends: xserver-xorg-video-ati but it is 
not installable
