The problem is also present in Ubuntu/Debian mplayer and other players.
Here are a few things I tested :
* using the libav sample (rsync://fate-suite.libav.org/fate-suite/cram):
ffplay plays everything ok
mplayer and vlc fail to correctly display skating.avi
* using the reporter sample file:
ffplay fails
mplayer and vlc fail
