Btw, the upstream discussion indicates that the patch has been tested on intel but maybe needs wider testing to ensure it doesn't cause erroneous behavior on radeon and nouveau drm drivers. Thus, it would be reasonable for kernel team to block on seeing these patches appear in the upstream kernel tree, but will leave that to their discretion.
