That is to be expected. Using pure buffer swaps is (presently) much more CPU intensive for compiz than the default rendering method, because it (presently) has to redraw every part of the screen on every frame (60 times per second). The default rendering method for compiz only tries to redraw what changes, but doesn't use buffer swapping so will cause tearing.
It's a trade-off, and obviously why "Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint" is not turned on by default.
