I'm running kernel 3.0.7 (seems to have been released < 2 weeks ago)
(actually pf-kernel: http://pf.natalenko.name/) on Arch Linux, 32-bit,
and I'm still getting this, on an Aspire 5735.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, this doesn't happen if the battery
isn't in the laptop (just running off AC), which is how I run it most of
the time anyway. Another observation: turning the display off and on
resets the backlight brightness to maximum.
