Similar problem.
Trying to debug via ssh and any attempts at top, ps, lsmod, tail -f
/var/log/syslog and anything else that runs for more than about 1/2 second,
freezes.
Running rtkitctl -k stops the daemon, and instantly everything resumes running
without a problem. CPU usage is at 100% when rtkit is running.
Any tips on how we can debug this? This is on Ubuntu 11.10 fully
updated, 4Gb ram, P4. As rtkit seems to be related to pulseaudio, the
sound card is a VT8237A/VT8251 HDA Controller.
For now I've removed rtkit to see if the system functions fine without
it.
