Public bug reported:

In Kubuntu 11.04 my Audigy 2 sound card worked. in 11.10 it does not.

Through a long (hours) IRC session I was able to get the card to work
with it's front panel headphone output only.

The Audigy is grayed out in the phonon kcm and the only selectable
option is "Dummy Output".

My computer also has onboard audio (realtek) that is normally disabled
in BIOS. Enabling this device causes the SB Audigy to be selectable in
the phonon kcm but, no combination of settings in the hardware tab
produces audio from the rear audio jacks. Also, the onboard audio is not
shown at all in the phonon kcm when enabled.

If I "sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio" then reboot with the onboard audio
activated it then does appear in the phonon kcm and produces sound from
it's outputs though the Audgy does not. The problem with this solution
is that not all programs have sound now.

Doing the above with the onboard audio disabled will show all of the
Audugy's hardware in the phonon kcm but will still only produce sound
from the front headphone jack.

In short:
Audgy + pulse = Audgy not available and no sound or front headphone only
Audgy - pulse = headphone only
Audgy + onboard + pulse = Audgy available and no sound or front headphone
only and no sound/option to use onboard
Audgy + onboard - pulse = no sound or front headphone only with Audgy and
onboard works for some programs only
