Terry - I am using Debian Linux here and managed to get my D1660 to
print successfully by doing the following:

Driver used: HP Deskjet d1600 Series, hpcups

Then go to Job Options and scroll down for "Image Options". Change the
"Scaling" setting from the default (100%), to 99%.

The printer would not print using the d1600 hpijs driver. Although it
printed with the d1600 hpcups driver, the footers at the bottom of each
page would print with a mix of colors and were uneven. When I found the
"Image Scaling" setting and changed this to 99%, the footer now prints a
little higher up on the page, but it now prints properly and without any
of the colors mixing.

Hope this helps. :)
