Yes, the last time I tried to install it was still an issue. I got the machine to support an ESL school that wanted to load a particular school administrative program on it that runs on Ubuntu Server. I had to provide them with other hardware and kept this machine to try to work on later. Only Red Hat based systems (Fedora, Centos, and Scientific Linux) will load up and even they have trouble (every reboot involves several attempts at loading Grub before it finally "takes").
I hoped that future versions of Ubuntu would work, but no luck (havent tried the latest though, have been using Centos. I finally got frustrated and got a replacement motherboard and CPU to put in the box the next time I have enough undistracted spare time. I was disappointed by the lack of willingness to respond that I got from HP when I told them I had blown away Windows and installed Linux. They said it voided the warranty and they would not help. I used to work on systems development and we had HP people in the shop (a development lab using Windows, Solaris, and Linux), they were very responsive then and had no problem with Linux. They said they used Linux at corporate for their version control system. Oh well. Anyway, thanks for your response.
