Public bug reported:
I have Ubuntu 11.04 on laptop (made in 2005) and after installing skype
package, computer experienced one of his usual crashes (do to the
overheating or old hardware components or both) forcing me to do restart
on unclean way. During next login I got msg that I should switch to
Ubuntu Classic because some component is missing. When that same login
was over, the desktop has already been switched automatically and some
applications didn't worked very well (Skype, DraftSight and Ubuntu
Software Center were started but not displayed on screen, other apps
worked fine). So I hoped that upgrading whole distribution on Ubuntu
11.10. will supply my system with missing components, but it seems I was
wrong. At this moment I am going to restart computer because I got msg
that installation is finished with some errors, but About Ubuntu says
that I am still on Ubuntu 11.04. This report was initiated by upgrade
procedure and I want to see what really happened with comp. during this
typing. Bay :-)
