Tried this on a Lucid machine and this looks to be intended behavior:
$ sudo iptables -A OUTPUT -o br0 -m physdev --physdev-out eth0
iptables: Invalid argument. Run `dmesg' for more information.
$ dmesg|tail -1
[1120713.174841] physdev match: using --physdev-out in the OUTPUT, FORWARD and
POSTROUTING chains for non-bridged traffic is not supported anymore.
Marking as "Won't Fix" as we won't diverge from upstream on this issue.
