"Ahh, I reread the original bug. Yes, the "^" key will only
work in scientific mode because that's where the x^y button
resides.
The key equivalent of x squared is "@". If you hover the mouse
over the button you'll see this information.
In gcalctool Basic mode, I used the keyboard to enter
