Public bug reported:

ubuntu 11.10, 64 bit kernel, when plugging a generic uvc webcam, the
uvcvideo fails with "Failed to initialize the device (-5)." (dmesg
output attached) and no video device is created in /dev.

expected: a device node created in /dev.

output of lsusb:
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 1871:0306 Aveo Technology Corp.

attached is the relevant part of dmesg with the folowwing command:
sudo modprobe uvcvideo trace=5

output of uname -a:
