Public bug reported: net install behind a squid proxy. target can only access web via squid. it gets almost done, and fails to install grub. enable forwarding on squid box, retry, install finishes.
looking at syslog, it looks like it is failing to get some language related packages. But what seems to be the show stopper: "Could not connect to us.archive.ubuntu.com:80 (91.189.92.182), connection timed out " I also see this in the mist: Nov 12 21:20:36 net/hw-detect.hotplug: Detected hotpluggable network interface eth0 maybe it re-configured the net stuff, including the proxy? prolly not, just seemed worth a mention. here is my idea of the important parts of the log - attached full syslog to the point of "can't install grub" message. d-i mirror/http/proxy string http://chris:8000/ Nov 12 21:00:24 debconf: --> DATA debconf-apt-progress/info description Running post-installation trigger python-central Nov 12 21:00:24 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:24 debconf: --> PROGRESS INFO debconf-apt-progress/info Nov 12 21:00:24 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:26 debconf: --> PROGRESS SET 850 Nov 12 21:00:26 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:26 debconf: --> PROGRESS SET 883 Nov 12 21:00:26 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:26 debconf: --> GET mirror/protocol Nov 12 21:00:26 debconf: <-- 0 http Nov 12 21:00:26 debconf: --> GET mirror/http/proxy Nov 12 21:00:26 debconf: <-- 0 http://chris:8000/ Nov 12 21:00:27 in-target: The following extra packages will be installed: Nov 12 21:00:27 in-target: language-pack-gnome-en-base Nov 12 21:00:27 in-target: The following NEW packages will be installed: Nov 12 21:00:27 in-target: language-pack-gnome-en language-pack-gnome-en-base Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: --> PROGRESS SET 883 Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: --> DATA debconf-apt-progress/info type text Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: --> DATA debconf-apt-progress/info description Retrievi ng file 1 of 2 Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: --> PROGRESS INFO debconf-apt-progress/info Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:27 in-target: Failed to create client object: Daemon not running Nov 12 21:00:27 in-target: Failed to create client object: Daemon not running Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: --> PROGRESS SET 883 Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: --> DATA debconf-apt-progress/info type text Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:00:27 debconf: --> DATA debconf-apt-progress/info description Retrieving file 1 of 2 above block repeated 2409 times (I think): $ grep "debconf: --> PROGRESS SET 883" syslog | wc 2409 19272 110814 I guess it times out after 20 minutes: Nov 12 21:20:28 debconf: --> PROGRESS SET 883 Nov 12 21:20:28 debconf: <-- 0 OK Nov 12 21:20:28 in-target: 0 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
