Fabio After trying I know not what altogether including sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade it now appears to be working fine. The only problem I have yet to solve is how to get Libre Office back on the launcher. David

I uninstalled Libre Office and reinstalled - still no joy. The next time I booted although the mouse cursor moved around the screen neither left nor write clicks activated any program or even allow log off. Recovery mode gave me the terminal only.
