Public bug reported:

3 years after the SD Association announced a new standard for high-
capacity SD memory cards (Microsoft exFAT) there is still no "out of the
box" support for exFAT.

As Precise Pangolin is going to be a LTS with 5 years of support, this
feature should be implemented as default. As a LTS version will be
widespread and the fact that many hard drives, SD XC cards and many
other devices are using this file system as default will make very
difficult to use Ubuntu for the average user.

As LTS versions emphasize in stability, reliability and hardware
support, without supporting exFAT, many devices wont work at all. This
will be a major issue for users without advanced Linux knowledge and for
those without an stable internet connection. ExFAT support in Ubuntu
it's a critical Issue to be addressed as soon as possible as not having
it affects bug #1 ...

... nowbody will delete Windows from his computer or even use Ubuntu
without having the seccurity of reading and writing the new hardware he
buy. I'm actually finding very hard to find workarounds that are
actually a bad patch

No Blueprint or Bug has been published after UDS for 12.04 for exFAT
support or implementation of Fuse-exFAT within Ubuntu. That's why I'm
publishing this Bug, my knowledge is not so advanced as to write a
Blueprint. This is my first Bug, sorry if it's not the right place to
publish this.
