I know about it and it's not a problem of somebody developing it. It's a problem of Ubuntu not supporting it as a default package.
If this package would be targeted for 12.04 and included in Alphas and Betas of Ubuntu, bugs would help in the development and thing could speed up a bit. This is a critical issue ...
