Public bug reported:
Actual: delays of about 1 second, mouse and keyboard do not work
Expected: no delays. But I would not mention delays of about 0.05 sec.
I am seeing arbitrary intermittent delays of about one second when I do:
a) switching from one desktop workspace to another (1 second or a bit more,
mouse and keyboard do not work)
b) launching programs like opera (but not only), keyboard and mouse do not work
for about 1 second
c) the newest adobe flash plug-in changes frames with a frequency of about 1
second
d) mplayer starts/stops playing with a delay (but usually less than one second)
e) if I have two opened instances of mplayer, one of them on pause, the other
is inadequately slow.
I suspect that this is due to the same constant of 1 second meaning a timeout
task rotation interval or something.
The system monitor shows that both CPU cores are under some 50% load, there is
free memory (sometimes 50% and 0% of swap), and the HD LED is not blinking.
These misfeatures look unrelated, but what's common is that:
1) Under Hardy I do not have any of these problems (yes, I still have a Hardy
partition).
2) I have seen the same problem in Oneiric, but it was even worse, and this is
why I installed Natty
One more related feature that may be a clue is that I have seen strange
behaviour of the system monitor under Oneiric: for one of the
processors, it was drawing a normal line, while for the other it was
drawing spikes. (I had 3 versions of the system monitor at the same
time: one that came by default, one came with xfce and one with gnome.
Or maybe one of them came with KDE which I also had then.)
Probably, the delay only happens on one of the two cores.
Anyway, I have seen this problem in both Natty and Oneiric, and in
Oneiric it's worse.
