I strongly disapprove of this in lightning, and as the maintainer, I probably should have been consulted before this was uploaded.
The issue you're trying to solve is only a "problem" for people running the beta version of Thunderbird (which is everybody in precise or people opting in to the thunderbird-next PPA. The latter group already accept some risk that there will be periods where addons may not work). Rather than adding workarounds like this which will block Thunderbird upgrades in the future for people who opt in to the thunderbird-next PPA (thus, reducing our already minimal test coverage), it would be much more productive for people to instead help by uploading a version of lightning which works. Note, this change also prevents upgrades to the Earlybird version of Thunderbird (in the thunderbird-aurora PPA), for which we don't provide any compatible versions of lightning at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/839130 Title: Add versioned package dependency for maximum XUL application version To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightning-extension/+bug/839130/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
