I've been running an 11,2 model on debian/sid (now linux 3.1.1, with two patches, one for the sound output, one to load vbios rom) under EFI boot with great success, for six months. The only thing that does not work is backlight control, which can be set once and for all through a BIOS boot. I may help you here. Note that booting with USB is probably not the easiest approach. CDROM or hard drive booting is easier.
