Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: usplash
When I change init levels using 'init 1' from either a virtual console
(Ctrl-Alt-F1) or within a console in KDE, usplash puts up its shutdown
screen. It hangs at 'Sending processes the TERM signal' and does not
uncover the screen so that the console text is visible.
I can type in commands - running 'echo a >/foo' created a file /foo (which I
saw on restarting the computer).
I can't run the 'shutdown' command from behind the splash screen. Probably
because there is an existing instance of usplash running already.
Also, and probably related to this problem, usplash hangs on the same
line when I run 'sudo shutdown now' from a virtual console.
*** Steps to reproduce: ***
Option 1: EITHER run 'sudo init 1' from any console in multi-user mode, with
'splash' set as a kernel option.
Option 2: OR run 'sudo shutdown now' from a virtual console in multi-user mode,
with 'splash' set as a kernel option.
*** What happens: ***
Splash screen hangs at 'Sending processes the TERM signal'.
*** What should happen: ***
Option 1: The root console should be displayed.
Option 2: The computer should power off.
*** Version info: ***
Kubuntu Fiesty 7.04
linux 2.6.20-15-generic
usplash 0.4-44
