I’ve also been experiencing regular hangs (every few seconds!) since upgrading to Oneiric. I’ve finally found the culprit (for me): sessionstore.js (in your Firefox profile). Deleting that file, together with sessionstore.bak, restored Firefox’s performance (though I had to recreate my tabs and groups). I have no idea why this wasn’t an issue before the upgrade. Perhaps something in Oneiric is causing access to that file to be slower than it was before; perhaps it’s just a coincidence and the file got corrupted around the same time.
