Here's my guess. But I'm not a dev, only a user trying to help :-) so
don't took it too seriously.

It seems strange that the type of partition is not recognized : it may
be the source of the problem. Moreover, I think I have read somewhere
that somebody have solved an automounting problem by formating his
device in feisty. It is worth a try...

You could try to create another partition on your drive, using gparted
for instance and see what happen.

But I am far from being sure : if it doesn't work, don't cry :-)
