Have you tried modifying your /etc/default/grub file? Remove quiet and splash.
So the line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
will look like this
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""
After changing that file, be sure to run:
sudo update-grub
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
Status: Confirmed => Invalid
