Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: console-setup
It looks like my text console isn't properly set up at boot time.
Running /etc/init.d/console-setup start seems to fix the issue though.
As a side note, I'd like to point out how bothersome defaulting to a
charset other than the good ol' VGA is (my install came with the
terminus font as default).
