I was able to install grub from a live cd and boot onereic server from the grub command line but now it wont recognise my password to log in. Two critical bugs and I haven't even logged in yet...
After I cleaned away the soot from my ears where the flames came out, I pulled some passwd, shadow, and group files from a backup and replaced those in the onereic install, that got me in but created some other issues. I'm remembering how awesome 10.04 is and I can't wait for all this spectacular innovation to get smoothed out by the next LTS.
