Open a duplicate for very simple reasons: a) because a launchpad bug report is always limited to a single packet, while this bug addresses two of them, lightdm and the desktop. lightdm for making the wrong decision, desktop for poor implementation.
b) it has not been fixed so far, so I considered this bug as being ignored and hoped that someone other than you would deal with it.
